Surf Fishing Guide For Beginners

By: Carolyn Anderson

Surf fishing is a sport that is done in the shoreline and can be enjoyed by many especially if you are having a vacation by the beach and you just want to catch fish right then and there near the shoreline. If you are interested to learn this sport on your next beach vacation, here are some surf fishing guide that can help you in starting with this sport.

What You Will Need

What you will need in starting with surf fishing is a fishing rod with a fishing reel. You will also need your bait or lure, a bucket for your catch, hooks, swivels or lines. There are also a lot of bait and lures that you can choose from but you can ask the locals especially if you are in a place you are not quote familiar with. You can also use lures such as spoons, soft plastic or jigs to attract the fishes to your bait.

These are the basic equipment but you can always add more for your protection as well. Some surf fishers may use waders which can also add protection from other creatures in the sea such as sting rays. This will also protect you as well as from the cold waters. You can also bring with you flashlights or headlamps as surf fishing is often done at nighttime to timely catch the fishes at their feeding time.

What is good about surf fishing is that, you won't need to own or rent a boat to enjoy fishing. And of course, you can still relax and enjoy this sport with great friends or family. You might find this sport a little easy if you have been reading some surf fishing guides but this sport requires proper timing to be able to enjoy it. Of course, you have to be in the right place, the right time and with the right equipment to enjoy such sport.

One more important thing though. Before getting too excited to wade into the water for your surf fishing adventure, make sure you have secured the necessary license to do so.

Finding The Best Spot

Indeed, this sport is best enjoyed if you are at the right spot. If you are in a beach, you can find the best spot by looking for eddies. These are places where birds often feed on fish and where you will most likely find large schools of fish. Although it is best to be at the right spot when you surf fish, it is however important to remember to put safety first. Always secure a good surf fishing guide to help you with the safety of the sport.

Powerful waves and strong current may cause injury or accidents, thus you have to always be careful when engaging into this sport. You also have to watch out for shark bites as well as stingrays. Wear protection always with your feet and even put on sunscreens to protect your skin as well. Be watchful of the waves and never turn your back on them. Of course, in any sport, safety is always a priority.

Most of the time, beach buggies are used by surf fishers in spotting the best areas to surf fish. If you re planning to have one in your surf fishing adventure, make sure you secure a permit for the said vehicle as this can sometimes be restricted or totally not allowed. A good surf fishing guide will help you learn everything you need to know about this exciting sport.
